Here you can fulfil your dream of “pure relaxation” in the midst of green surroundings. The attractive landscape with rivers, lakes, forested hills and rolling valleys has something for everyone. If you love to take it easy, you can go on a lazy cycling tour along the Ruhr, take a walk along the Glörtalsperre (Glör Valley Dam) in Breckerfeld, enjoy a ride on an excursion ship on Lake Harkort near Herdecke or amble through the historic old town of Hattingen. Sportsmen can hike in the “Elfringhauser Schweiz“ near Sprockhövel or paddle down the Ruhr in a rented canoe. If you want to go full throttle and challenge yourself, you can go mountain biking in the Ardey mountains near Wetter (Ruhr) or in the forests around Ennepetal. The Ruhr Valley with its three lakes is well known and very popular: Lake Hengstey near Herdecke, Lake Harkort near Wetter and Lake Kemnade near Witten. You can explore the surroundings on the nostalgic Ruhr Valley train or on an excursion ship. The lakes are ideal for all kinds of water sports. If you think swimming, sailing, rowing, surfing or pedal-boating are not enough for you, you can try tennis or beach volleyball. Or what about a hiking or a mountain biking tour? Above the Ruhr there are breathtaking vistas and old forts that tempt you to stop and rest for a while.
